The Federal Government has launched the NiYA Youth Ambassador Programme in Akwa Ibom State, a key initiative aimed at boosting youth engagement and participation in national development at the grassroots level. This launch took place during the ARISE Youth Skills Week 2025 in Uyo, a celebration of the National Youth Day.
The Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, stated that the program is a strategic move to bring federal youth-focused initiatives directly to local communities. As part of the rollout, two youth ambassadors will be appointed in each local government area. These ambassadors will champion the ministry’s flagship programs, which include:
- The Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA): An initiative to equip young people with digital skills and entrepreneurial training.
- The Bamboo Youth Empowerment Scheme: A program focused on promoting green entrepreneurship and sustainable skills.
- Digital Literacy For All (DL4ALL): A program aimed at increasing digital literacy across Nigeria.
The Minister praised the Akwa Ibom State Government for its strong partnership and commended its Youth Skills Pitch Challenge, calling it “a model for other states to emulate.” He emphasized that creating platforms for young people to showcase their talents and receive support is the most effective way to achieve “practical, impactful development.”
He also underscored the growing importance of technology and innovation, stressing that skills in artificial intelligence and digital tools are now essential across various sectors, from agriculture to entertainment.
